St. George’s and Our Community in a Nutshell
St. George’s Church is a community of faithful people who join together to worship and serve the Hilton community. We are located in Hilton New York, which is a growing community just outside of Rochester, New York. Our town hosts a variety of businesses including two banks and a credit union, a bowling alley, a grocery store, a few restaurants, and a shopping plaza with several small shops. We also have a beautiful, new firehouse, a nursing home, two funeral parlors, several churches, and a senior center. In addition, we have an assortment of activities close by.
There are always fun things to do in and around Hilton. We are near Lake Ontario, where we can enjoy boating, camping, fishing, and picnicking on warm summer days. Our fire department organizes a parade in July each year, which brings other fire departments and organizations from all over Monroe County to our town and is followed by a carnival that has featured name artists, such as Charlie Daniels. Surrounded by farms and wooded areas, we enjoy the outdoors and have opportunities for hiking, hunting, snowmobiling, and picking pumpkins. Kelly’s apple farm is located across the road from us and offers fresh pressed cider, some of the best pastries you’ll ever eat, and a fun place for people to socialize by a cozy fireplace.
The town hosts a huge “Apple Festival” each fall. Dozens of venders come from far and near selling many varieties of arts and crafts. Churches, Scouts, and school clubs offer all kinds of foods and services, and a variety of entertainers perform for thousands of people who come to enjoy the festivities.
We are only thirty minutes from the city of Rochester where you can dine in a fine restaurant, attend a concert or a performance by our philharmonic orchestra or chorus, attend a play or musical at the Auditorium or Geva Theaters, visit several museums -- including a planetarium, or watch a sporting event at the Blue Cross Arena. Our city has professional baseball, soccer, lacrosse, and hockey teams.
As for education, Hilton enjoys one of the best school districts in the area, where the high school student body consists of over 1,500 students. As well, Rochester and the surrounding area has some of the top colleges in the country: Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Rochester, Nazareth, St. John Fisher, Roberts Wesleyan, and the Eastman School of Music, SUNY Brockport, and Monroe Community College, to name a few.
The best thing about our church is that we are a family! We work hard to welcome everyone and make people feel comfortable in our parish. We serve the community in many different ways throughout the year. We tend a vegetable garden in the summer that yielded 800 pounds of produce last year for our local food shelf; we volunteer at the food shelf; we join with the council of churches in town activities; we hold technology recycling events; and we participate in the Applefest yearly. We have a small group of children of varying ages who brighten our Sundays with their charm. Our youth are active in the community and support the needs of our parish.
The congregation of St. George’s is strongly committed and hopes that you will consider joining our team.
