Youth Group Activities on Hold

1/2/2021

Due to shut-downs because of the COVID-19 pandemic, most of the activities of our Youth Group have been canceled since Christmas 2019.  We were able to do a safe planting of sunflowers on the church property last June and our Youth Group sent out Christmas cards to our parish family this past December.  Members of our Youth have helped with our summer and fall apple sausage sales as well and continue to act as lay readers at church for our live-streamed worship services.

We hope to be able to gather in-person once again sometime in 2021.

The Youth Group is collecting new hats, gloves, and mittens of all sizes and new or gently used coats of all sizes.  They will be taking these to the Christmas Cookout on Dec. 21st, at the House of Mercy for distribution to the homeless.  They have placed a collection box in the Narthex.

At the House of Mercy they will be helping with the cookout, distributing the warm hats, gloves, mittens and coats they have collected, and will be caroling as well.  All are welcomed to come along and help.  Come as a family or bring a friend.

On Saturday, Nov. 23rd, our Youth Group participated in the Feed My Starving Children Project.  We had 12 kids and 5 adults participate from St. George's.  Our group alone packed 3,500 meals in under 2 hours!  As an event total, we all packed 53,352 meals which will feed 146 children every day for a year!  Pastor Greg said it best, "It's amazing what you can do when you come together!"  Every time we filled a box we let out our cheer "Hunger Into Hope!"  Each youth was able to donate $10 from the proceeds of our car wash and families also donated to the project.

Our Youth Group had a great kickoff meeting to get the year rolling! They spent some time getting to know Pastor Greg a bit better and also played some icebreaker games to get to know each other better and to introduce each other. They enjoyed some pizza and M&Ms too!

They already have planned a COMMUNITY CAR WASH for NEXT SUNDAY, 9/29, from 11:00-1:00 in the church parking lot. It's going to be a great year together!

Christmas Eve 2018

12/24/2018

At our Christmas Eve worship service, our youth shared a poem and a prayer to express the meaning of Christmas.  They also sang 2 verses of "The First Noel."  The text, pictures and video of their presentation can be found below.  They did a wonderful job!

The Meaning of Christmas
Author Unknown

Far away in Bethlehem, a baby boy was born,
Born with neither riches, nor with fame,
Yet wise men came from all around to bring him their gifts
And peace was felt by all who heard his name.

Angels watched him as he slept, and gently rocked his bed,
Their voices singing softly in his ear,
His mother and his father both gave thanks to God above
For the greatest gift of all, their Son, so dear.

They knew his life upon this earth would not be filled with wealth,
They also knew he would encounter strife.

But most of all, they knew that he would be a loving child,
And teach the love of God throughout his life.

At Christmas we celebrate this birth of Jesus Christ,
Let’s keep in mind the truth of Christmas Day.
For it’s not the Christmas wrappings, nor the gifts that lie within
But our gift of love to others in every way.

A Christmas Prayer
By Robert Louis Stevenson

Loving Father, help us to remember the birth of Jesus,
that we may share in the song of the angels,
the gladness of the shepherds,
and the worship of the wise men.

Close the door of hate
and open the door of love all over the world.
Let kindness come with every gift
and good desires with every greeting.

Deliver us from evil by the blessing which Christ brings,
and teach us to be merry with clear hearts.

May Christmas morning make us happy to be thy children,
and Christmas evening bring us to our beds
with grateful thoughts, forgiving and forgiven,
for Jesus’ sake.

AMEN
