This week we had the "Littles" only for Sunday School
This Week in Sunday School - Theme - God takes care of us in many ways. God’s light shines in many ways in the world around us. Littles - This week we read the book, Animals of the Bible from A to Z, by Alice Camille. Some of the animals in this storybook are those who actually appeared in bible stories, such as those in the stable at the birth of Jesus, the whale in the story of Jonah, or the lions who spared Daniel. Other animals were chosen to highlight a virtue, symbolize a desirable characteristic, or warn of a wickedness. The overall theme of the book is that God is caring for us all of the time, in many different ways, and often through the people or even the animals in the world around us. With the beginning of fall upon us, we also talked about the change of the seasons, another way God is present in our world. God’s love shines everywhere. We sang, “This Little Light of Mine,” and “God is so Good.” Craft/Activity - Today the children made a fall-themed sun catcher to hang in a window and let God’s light shine through. Also, children who were not in Sunday School last week, had the opportunity to make a lantern to remind them to let their light shine. (**NOTE** The lanterns made this week will have to dry overnight so they won’t be able to bring them home until next week.) We are so excited to be starting another year learning and growing in faith together! Welcome back!
This Week in Sunday School - Theme - Let your light shine, so that others will see the good that you do and will praise your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16) Littles - They had the passage about “Salt and Light” and about “The Law of Moses” (Matthew 5:13-20) read to them from our Spark Children’s Bible. Then they talked about how in this passage Jesus is telling us that when we follow him we are like lights, because we can show others the way to see Jesus’ love and how to follow him. We do this when we show kindness to others. If we decide not to show love and kindness, we are like the light that is covered up. When we darken our world like this it is sad, but when we show love and kindness to others we honor God in our lives. They talked about ways to show kindness and who they might show kindness to today. Middles and Youth - They also read together the passages about “Salt and Light” and “The Law of Moses” from our contemporary youth bibles (Matthew 5:13-20). Then we discussed what it means to “show your light” in the world around you, times and ways that they have shown their light and ways they have experienced others doing the same. Craft/Activity - Today both groups made lanterns to remind them to let their light shine. **NOTE** These will have to dry overnight so they won’t be able to bring them home until next week. More pictures will be posted of the finished lanterns next week. Sunday School began again on Sunday, September 16th. Given the changing ages and needs of our students, we are once again reorganizing a bit. Here's what it looks like this year: "Littles" - (PreSchool - Grade 1) - Will have class every Sunday. "Middles" (Grade 2-5) and any "Youth" who would still like to attend Sunday School (Grade 6 and above) - Will have class together twice a month on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month. On our Welcome Back Sunday (Sept. 16th) we celebrated by having ALL our students join us for Sunday School followed by Make-Your-Own Ice Cream Sundaes following to the worship service. |
OUR PROGRAMWe hold Sunday School every other Sunday, Sept. through May, during the 10:00 Worship Service. Our program includes students of all ages, from Preschool through Grade 6 Archives
